Open Track Days

Rules and Procedures

The Open Track Days are designed to allow anyone, regardless of experience access to the track. The day is set up with some basic rules to allow each participant to enjoy the track time at their own speed and experience level.

Track Orientation, Rider/Driver Evaluation (TORDE)

Anyone wishing to participate in an open track day regardless of track experience must take the TORDE.
This is to ensure everyone participating in the day is clear on the rules of participation. With the different levels of experience it is very important to have everyone on the same page. The orientation consists of a 20 minute classroom session, a van session and an instructor ride along. Once you are cleared by your instructor you are free to run the remainder of the day and any future Open Track Days.

In order to ensure your spot in a scheduled Open Track Day you should sign up in advance. Simply download the appropriate form, fill it out, and fax it back to us. Download the form for motorcycles (pdf). Download the form for cars (pdf).

Cost

For cars, the cost is $175 for a half-day and $275 for a full day. For motorcycles, a half-day is $120 and a full day is $190.

Full Day vs Half Day

A full day includes a minimum of (2) twenty minute sessions in the morning and (3) twenty minute sessions in the afternoon. A half day includes a minimum of (3) twenty minute sessions in the afternoon.

Registration

Registration will open at 8:00am. If you are pre-registered, security will indicate where the driver/riders meeting will be held. Bring a completed tech form to the drivers meeting. If you have not pre-registered, see the welcome center before entering the park to register.

Run Groups

There will generally be three run groups. Motorcycles, street cars and race prepared cars. The run groups will sometimes change depending on attendance.

Eligible Cars

All street legal cars with a hard top are eligible. All convertibles must have roll over protection, either a factory deployable system or a roll bar with a minimum of 4 mounting points. Race cars with either a NASA or SCCA log book are also accepted.

Safety Equipment: An M2000, SA 2000 or newer helmet is required. Open face helmets are allowed. Long pants, short sleeve shirt, and closed toe shoes are required. Gloves are not required.

Track Rules

Pit and Paddock Speed

Maximum Paddock speed is 15mph and will be enforced. Any speed in the paddock will not be tolerated. Maximum pit lane speed is 35mph and will be enforced. No heavy acceleration in pit lane is allowed.

Track Direction

All track configurations will run counter clock wise. For no reason is a vehicle to run counter course.

Off Course Excursions

If you drop two wheels off course more than once in a session you are required to enter the pits to explain your actions. If you drop four wheels off course or spin, you are required to enter the pits to explain your actions. If you drop four wheels off course or spin more than once during an Open Track Day, you may be excluded from the remainder of the day.

Disabled Vehicles

If you have car or bike problems do your best to park your car in a low impact area, behind a barrier or corner station would work best. We will radio for EVAC to rescue you at the end of the session but you must remain in the vehicle until you are towed back to the paddock area, unless otherwise instructed by an MMP official.

Passing

Three things must happen for a pass to be legal. 1) The over taking driver must receive a clear signal from the driver in front indicating the side they wish to be passed. 2) The over taking driver goes off line to make the pass. The pass should be made on the left with a left hand turn approaching, on the right with a right turn approaching. 3) The pass must be made in the strait away. This means both drivers must have completed the previous corner and the pass must be completed before the braking zone. Passing is allowed in designated passing areas as outlined in the drivers meeting. Making an illegal pass will warrant a black flag. Continued disregard for the passing rules could exclusion from the remainder of the day.

General Etiquette

The Open Track Days are to allow quality track time; they are not for any type of competition. Racing, running close or making dangerous passes will not be tolerated.
